Fred’s Update on the season to date….

As pruning draws to a close we look back on an unusually mild winter – in fact the mildest for about 30 years! We enjoyed a relatively dry and slightly cloudy winter with considerably fewer clear crisp nights and a break from the usual runs of cracking frosts. Spring arrived about a week early, and the vines are now moving very fast with buds just opening in the earlier varieties like Chardonnay. With the “official” forecasters suggesting a milder and damper spring, that will help reduce frost risks and ensure more even growth compared with some recent dry winters in the south.

Cheers, Fred
