Vintage 2021 in Tasmania

I’ve been asked by many of you for my thoughts on Vintage 2021. It wasa fairly cool vintage with a single major rain event. With only a couple of days over 35C, very few over 26C and the majority being in the 19 – 25C range, this season showed how powerful vine canopies (the leaves!) can be - when operating at their preferred “Goldilocks” leaf temperatures. With the vines being “unstressed”, they surprised us with their ripening power, to produce some excellent parcels of grapes - another great advantage of cool climate viticulture!

Cheers, Fred
